About Me

what day care can do for your dog

What do you do when you adopt a dog that suffers from serious separation anxiety? When I took this dog in, I knew that he likely had some problems because he was a full-grown dog that had just been placed in a shelter. I worked to crate train him for when I was at work and spent as much time working with him when I was home. Unfortunately, things weren't going so well when I wasn't at home with him. I decided that it was probably in his best interest to find a day care center for him. That choice has made such a difference in our relationship. Just Adopted A Kitten? 4 Tips For Getting Them Comfortable With Grooming

An important part of keeping your cat in good health throughout their life is regular grooming. If you've recently adopted a new cat, it's a good idea to get them started young so that they're comfortable being groomed as they grow up. If you're unsure of how to do this, you'll want to start as early as possible with the following tips.

Practice Brushing Their Teeth

Keeping your cat's teeth in good condition is essential for their overall health since it's known that poor dental hygiene can lead to a number of other health problems. While your cat's teeth will likely fall out as they get older and their adult teeth begin to grow in, it's still a good idea to begin taking care of good dental hygiene practices with your kitten as early as possible. An easy way to do this is by using a cat-safe toothpaste and applying it to their teeth with your fingers.

Hold Their Paws Regularly

Trimming your cat's nails is important for both keeping your cat comfortable and preventing damage to your furniture due to scratching. To get your cat comfortable with nail trimming, it's a good idea to make a habit of simply holding your cat's paws for extended periods of time.

Make a Habit of Brushing Their Coat

Brushing your cat can be a good bonding exercise and can help make your cat feel closer to you while providing them with the essential grooming that they need. Even cats with short coats need regular brushing in order to prevent matting and other problems. Setting aside some time to brush your cat every day can help remove loose fur, ensuring that shedding will not be as big of a problem.

Consider Bringing Your Cat to a Groomer

While many people think of groomers as exclusively for dogs, an experienced groomer can provide a number of the same services for cats as well. Scheduling a visit to a pet groomer for your cat and letting them know in advance that you'll be bringing your cat in can help you can get quality care that will make it easier to groom them as they get older. Allowing a groomer to take care of your cat can also help in making vet visits in the future easier.

Understanding what's involved in grooming cats can help you get started with keeping your cat and their teeth healthy and looking great throughout their life.
